ChefChaouen is a small resort town in the northwestern part of Morocco. This is the largest location of the homonymous province. The most convenient and fast so long crescent-shaped city of Tangier, which is one of the largest port cities in Morocco. Road by car on motorway from Tangier has nothing to do with 11-hour journey that you will need to experience if you come from Casablanca. City name (ChefChaouen) or Chaouen, as Moroccans call it comes from the shape of the peaks of the Rif Mountains that towers over the city. They look like two horns (chaoua) goat. “Chef Chaouen” literally means “look at the horns.” This picturesque medieval town of ChefChaouen, sheltered among the mountains can not offer sea breeze and the sand, but can give you peace, clean air, beautiful mountains and incredible urban atmosphere. It is also called “Blue City” because of its numerous buildings, painted in shades of blue. ChefChaouen was founded by the Moors and Jews exiled from Spain in 1471 as a small fortress, which has remained until today. On the streets you will see the Spaniards, Frenchmen, Britons, Italians and many more various other nationalities, among which the smallest share accounted for by the hosts Moroccans.
