According open excavations, the first inhabitants settled on the islands of Southeast Asia around 1000 BC In 1874, Fiji became a British Overseas possession, but gained its independence in 1970 Suva is situated on the southeastern coast of Viti Levu island, part of the territory of Fiji. The city is the largest port and capital of island country. Besides economic, political and commercial center, Suva is the largest urban area in the waters of the South Pacific, after Australia and New Zealand. All attractions are near Fiji Museum at Thurston Gardens (Suva) and Natadola beach. Really interesting for the tourists is Mountain Tomanivi and also the Sri Suva Subramaniya Shrine. Great destination for relaxing rest away from the noise of the city and the expensive resorts.
