Island is located in the western Caribbean Sea, 144 km south of Cuba and 190 km west of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which are part of the island of Hispaniola. Although in close proximity to Latin America, the country is under the British flag, under the jurisdiction of Queen Elizabeth II, the official language is English. The terrain is mostly flat. Most of the land of Jamaica is covered with limestone plateau and the highest point is 2 256 m at Mount Blue Mountain, rising in the lands east of the island. 570 km long coastline is most attractive to tourists.
