THE BEST hotels in the world have been named by Tatler in their annual Travel Awards – with one in Cornwall making the cut.
Here are the very best, according to Tatler, for 2021.
Best hotel with heart – The Pig at Harlyn Bay, Cornwall
The hotel has won numerous awards since opening earlier this year, as the seventh hotel and first in Cornwall.
The 30-room hotel has a lot to offer in the Poldark region including surf classes and paddle-boarding lessons.
You can enjoy fresh lobster at the Lobster Shed restaurant, along with sparking wine from the Camel Vineyard nearby.
Best remote retreat – The Happy House, Nepal
Located in the tiny village of Phaplu in northeast Nepal, trekkers will enjoy the offerings from the owners.
The ten-bedroom home includes a bar, library, yoga centre as well as activities and experiences.
Guests can also go camping for the night with a view of Mount Everest, with the house surrounded by the lush forest.
Best beach hotel – Hotel Excelsior Venice, Italy
A five-star hotel located on Venice Lido beach lido, it was the first location of the Venice Film Festival in 1932.
Former guests include Winston Churchill as well as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and still attracts A-listers during the film event.

Best hotel restaurant – Pantrepant, Jamaica
While the hotel itself is beautiful, found on a working farm, the restaurant has been singled out.
Locally sourced food includes dishes such as roast jerk chicken and steamed callaloo, a vegetable similar to spinach, as well as freshly churned coffee ice cream.
Each dish is cooked by Mamma J, who has worked there for 20 years.
Best cultural haven – Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, Sicily
The hotel has its roots in literature with DH Lawrence’s famous Lady Chatterley’s Lover written during his stay at the hotel.
Writer Truman Capote, who wrote Breakfast at Tiffany’s, also stayed at the hotel for two years.

The 14-bedroom hotel is known for its health-conscious outlook.

It is easy to get to as well – direct flights from London to Baden-Baden are just an hour and a half.
Best private island retreat – The Nautilus, Maldives
The Nautilus resort is truly one for ultimate privacy, where you can easily avoid seeing other guests during your stay.
You can ask for anything whenever you want, such as off-menu dishes from the on-site chefs, to private fitness sessions – all at any time of day or night.
They have also launched an on-site Covid testing facility for guests and staff, with results in just 24 hours.
Best grand dame – Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, Thailand
As soon as you step in, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok lobby greets you with luxury, including huge floor to ceiling windows, as well as grand chandeliers and palm trees in the atrium.
The 144-year-old hotel underwent its biggest renovation this year, and only opened again last month.
Spend the evening with lychee martinis at the Bamboo Bar, with live jazz, or the Le Normandie restaurant with classic Thai meals.

For a cheaper stay, the Good Hotel Guide offered the best value hotels from £85 per night.
